Are there any circumstances under which you would support a VAT?

I said NO! But maybe if we had it in place of income tax I might consider it.

Yes, I would support VAT "ONLY" if it were to replace income tax. Income tax is very bad. Our current income tax allows government to decide what to take of our earned dollars. We are not in control and it inhibits people to a vast percentage of degrees from earning $'s and/or creating business. If we are only taxed on the amount we spend, then we are in full control of our wealth.

Income tax inhibits growth. Tax on $'s spent puts the people in control of their own $'s.

Only if it replaced the income tax and there were constitutional limits on the maximum rate for the VAT.

Good point; i.e., constitutional limits on max rate for VAT.

VAT - I had to deal with this when I would go to the auctions in England and France. They hit you with the hammer fee and then
the VAT - and you were always told as an American buying in these countries you would get your VAT back. Well, it's been years
and years and not one dime did I ever receive back.
